The Agha Brothers

Following our successful launch with Visionquest head Ryan Crosson, the Selectors Series’ second edition sees a celebration of family ties united across musical borders. Now established as a resident and talent curator at Montreal’s legendary Stereo nightclub since 2010, Nadir Agha aka Ostrich has been influential in shaping a new wave of Montreal nightlife in the years following the subsidence of the city’s famed minimal boom of the late 1990s and early 2000s. A hotbed of dance culture since the disco era, Montreal remains a potent incubator and shaper of sound in international electronic music, with institutions like MUTEK and (((STEREO))) highly respected abroad. Sharing ideas across the border with his brother Taimur Agha and others, Nadir’s influence in Montreal mirrors that of Blkmarket Membership in New York. Between the two brothers, they boast over fifteen years of experience in DJing and curation, a formidable family legacy that is shaping dance music in Canada and New York in similar directions. Taimur and Nadir have played together in New York, Montreal, Miami and Detroit’s legendary Need I Say More morning party at Old Miami. As the Selector’s Series consolidates its deeply personal mission to refocus on the DJs who form the foundations of the scene, we look to those closest to us as the most essential connections and the ties that bind the scene together.
